Sometimes we let the grind wear us down. In a bid to eat, or have a roof over our heads, or even the pressure to provide for others, the grind can chip away at who we are, and who we really want to be. Then we look back and it’s been an extended period of time, but you feel like you are standing in the same place. It takes a unique person that knows how to call it, when it's time to change it up, walk away or do something different. It’s ballsy, but also a talent within itself, as it takes reflection, awareness, and strength.
Gorgi Coghlan is one of those people. Gorgi studied Pharmacology and Zoology at University, holds a Bachelor of Science, but when it came to a lifetime in a lab, it wasn’t for her. Gorgi further studied teaching, and taught Science for a few years across senior school, before getting the inkling her trajectory needed to change again. All in that time her love for performing and being a classically trained singer never faded, and Gorgi started a long lasting career across TV, Media, Music, Theatre, Presenting and Journalism. From Today Show presenter, to a host of The Circle and ultimately 10 years on Network Ten’s The Project, whilst also juggling singing and Theatre shows, Gorgi worked tirelessly but it was clear whilst hard working, talented and committed, she also listened to her intuition and stuck by her values at each fork in the road. So we talk to Gorgi about what it is to follow your curiosity? What does she do to follow her intuition? How does she know when it’s time to set boundaries for herself? And how does she navigate the fast pace of media to protect her intuition and live by her core values?

“I’ve got to work on my perfectionism, as I’m a recovering perfectionist, but I never want to just settle.”

GORGI’S FAVOURITE AUTHOR’S & EXPERT’S
Brene Brown
American Professor (across Psychology), Author and Podcast Host
Brene is a research professor at the University of Houston and has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. Brene is the author of six #1 New York Times bestsellers, and is the host of the original podcasts Unlocking Us and Dare to Lead.
Brene’s bottom line: “I believe that you have to walk through vulnerability to get to courage, therefore…embrace the suck. I try to be grateful every day, and my motto right now is “Courage over comfort.”
Brene Brown Podcast ‘Dare to Lead’
Brené’s newest podcast is based on her book, Dare to Lead, which debuted at #1 on the New York Times, and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists, and has become the ultimate courage-building playbook for leaders at every level. Brené writes, “The Dare to Lead podcast will be a mix of solo episodes and conversations with change-catalysts, culture-shifters, and as many troublemakers as possible. Innovating, creating, and building a better, more just world, requires daring leadership in every part of our daily lives – from work to home to community. Together, we’ll have conversations that help us show up, step up, and dare to lead.”
Brene Brown’s Podcast ‘Unlocking Us’
I’ve spent over 20 years studying the emotions and experiences that bring meaning and purpose to our lives, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s this: We are hardwired for connection, and connecting requires courage, vulnerability, and conversation. I want this to be a podcast that’s real, unpolished, honest, and reflects both the magic and the messiness of what it means to be human. Episodes will include conversations with the people who are teaching me, challenging me, confusing me, or maybe even ticking me off a little. I'll also have direct conversations with you about what I’m learning from new research, and we'll do some episodes dedicated to answering your questions. We don’t have to do life alone. We were never meant to.
