Bec and Zoe talk briefly on their journey to this point. Fortunate to be well educated, begin careers and start families, they did not realise they would face such an overwhelming struggle in trying to navigate their identity. Who were they? Who are they now? A mum? A career professional? A partner? Navigating your role as a woman requires effort and consideration, so they chat to Dr. Emily Musgrove, a renowned practicing psychologist with her own Practice in W.A, but also returning expert on The Imperfects Podcast, to obtain some practical advice, and helpful resources to help make decisions on how to balance your many roles as a woman, and define your identity.

TOP TIPS

  • Google a list of values and find out where you sit!

  • Talk to the people in your life about how your life is working for you at the moment.

  • Roles – The research indicates that the more roles we occupy the greater the well-being. So consider what roles you want and enjoy undertaking:

    • Is it a book club?

    • A volunteer committee?

    • A regular physical activity eg. Pilates, Team Sport?

  •  If you want to prompt change within yourself, consider the options the below:

    • Journaling can start the process, so you can get start to get a sense around language of what you are experiencing

    • Choose one person that makes you feel safe to talk too, It doesn’t have to be a close loved one, it might even be someone more removed, just to start this conversation to express how you are feeling.

    • Take the time to look for an online support group or what option may be near you locally.

    • Consider counselling and a mental health plan with you GP.
